Modified Athletes: Moacyr Cortes, Ildeu Heller, Guga Ribas and Otacilio Junior, compete for the last time in the division
On November 18th – 20th, more than 300 athletes competed in the XXIV IPSC Brazilian Championship in Medianeira, Parana. CBTP’s last match in the 2011 calendar was also an opportunity for the gathering of the athletes, who took part in the traditional southern region “churrasco de chão”.
The atmosphere was also filled with a farewell feeling by the Modified division athletes, which will be extinct from 2012 on. Guga Ribas, who won the Brazilian Championship for the sixth time, said it was a good farewell. “It was a fierce match between me and Ildeu. The tournament was well organized and the stages well built, although they were a bit repetitive.”
The president of the Paranaense Practical Shooting Federation, Mario Brandalize, explained that the aim of the match was to explore the athletes’ techniques.
- The characteristics of some of the Medianeira Country Club stages did not allow us to assess the athletes’ techniques on long distance targets. The use of partially covered targets and a significant number of metallic targets certainly led to different levels of difficulty – stated Brandalize.
From the 24 stages in which athletes competed, one had to be canceled on the last day. This hindered some athletes’ results, as it happened to Lucimar Domingues, who fell from second to third position in Standard’s final result.
Results
Jaime Saldanha Junior became an IPSC Brazilian champion for the 9th time, getting his first title in Standard division. In the other divisions, João Carlos Stevenson got the first place in the Open division, Luis Henrique Ishihara became champion in Production and Moacir de Azevedo, champion in Revolver.
Antonio Lobo became Brazilian champion in Limited, division which is going to be promoted in place of the Modified in 2012. Besides the good results he achieved, the athlete stood out in the squad in which he competed for his flexibility and good mood. Wolf said that despite the short time he has to practice, he never stops exercising or laughing a lot.
- I have been practicing martial arts ever since I was a kid. That’s where my flexibility and physical preparation come from. In IPSC matches it helps me a lot to keep myself stable during movement, to make me ready and willing, and to prevent injuries. About the laughter, I believe it’s really good for my health, it relieves stress, not only in sport but also in my daily life – said Antonio.
Changes for 2012
Along the awards ceremony, the CBTP announced that from 2012 on some modifications will be made in relation to the format of the national championships, as well as to the selection of athletes to be part of the Brazilian teams aiming at international competitions. Mario Brandalize also chaired the CBTP Assembly held on the first day of the competition and explained what matches are going to be like next year.
- The Brazilian Championship will be held in five phases (four regional and one national) with two discards, making the regional phases more important and enabling the recovery of results. I believe that the competitions will be more heated – Brandalize explained.
In order to choose the athletes to compete in the Brazilian teams, three out of the five last matches before the international championship will be taken into consideration.
