Just one round is enough, or a little over two minutes for Luis “Beição” Ramos to pin Dimitri Burgo down on the mat in a katagatame hold. The MMA fighter sponsored by Guga Ribas Company was guaranteed yet another trophy, this time in the WOCS 14.
The victory, continuing with Beição’s winning streak this year, gave the athlete even more confidence for forthcoming fights. Between the training series, the fighter went to Brasilia to help his famous master André Pederneiras in the preparation of Shooto Brasil. That was when he got a call from his colleague José Aldo, featherweight champion in UFC. On the phone Aldo told Beição that he was invited to take part in the coveted Ultimate Fighting Championship.
“I didn’t think twice”, said Luis Beição, called to the event in Rio de Janeiro as a result of an injury to American Mike Swick, who withdrew from the event.
Luis Beição, world Shooto champion, has had a good performance recently. In his last 12 fights, he won 10 and lost only two. He will have to face his fellow countryman and also making his debut in the UFC, Erick Silva – the Indian. Erick is Jungle Fight champion in the MMA circuit in Brazil, and a member of the Nogueira Team, which includes the top athletes Anderson Silva and Rodrigo Minotauro.
Although he hasn’t much time to get ready, since he was called to the UFC only 20 days before, Beição assures us that he has been dedicated full-time to his training in the last few weeks and is quite focused on the fight. The athlete shows he knows his adversary well:
- Erick is an excellent athlete, a jiu-jitsu black belt and can hold his own in exchanging punches and kicks. He’s very dedicated. It will be a tough fight and in MMA anything can happen. It’s impossible to have a strategy – said Beição.
Although it’s his debut, Beição is calm. In addition to the prospect of winning, the athlete sponsored by Guga Ribas Company already has new targets in mind: he would like to stay in the UFC and later be eligible for the welterweight fight.
The fight between Luis Beição and Erick Silva will be valid for the UFC 134 preliminary card in the welterweight category to 77 kg. The event is on Saturday, August 27, in the HSBC Arena, Rio de Janeiro, and will be broadcast by the pay-per-view channel Premiere Combat on SporTV.
